Shawn Martin, HCLA Chair
Martin, HCLA's current chairman, is the Director of Government Relations for the American Osteopathic Association. As HCLA chairman, Martin is the principal source for up-to-date information about our medical liability reform efforts. He is available to discuss HCLA's legislative and advocacy work, trends in our public opinion polls, and our new research and grassroots initiatives. More broadly, Martin, who was recently named one of Washington's most influential health care lobbyists by The Hill newspaper, can also address the causes of the medical liability crisis and its negative impact on patient access to care. Christian Shalgian, Former HCLA Chair Shalgian, elected in January 2002 to a two year term as HCLA's chair, manages legislative affairs for the American College of Surgeons. As chairman of the coalition, he can discuss the many facets of the federal medical liability reform effort from the latest happenings on the Hill to what's being done at a grass roots level across the nation, from HCLA's public opinion polling to the research generated by HCLA member groups. As a representative of a national association of surgeons, he can address how the medical liability crisis is affecting doctors and hurting patients' access to care.
